One of the kids pointed out that when Dad eats, he wraps his arm around his plate or bowl. As you can tell by his face, he takes his food very seriously. As one of the youngest of 6 I assume he learned this technique of guarding his food at an early age!

There are some days when I wonder if the fighting will ever stop. I hate contention. I know that sounds funny, because I am a "red" and I have never shyed away from a fight. Since I've been pregnant I'm super sensitive to arguing of any kind. I have to say, since I started homeschooling the kids are more united then ever. They know eachother, maybe even better than I know them. I like that. They quickly know if someone is sad, they've learned to help eachother and make eachother laugh. But there are those days where tension is tight. So when that is the case, I look at this picture. I hope they stay as close as this. I have a feeling, this baby will bring them even closer.

Yes, I know... It's been a while. And for good reason. I became a Facebook Junkie. Im now a changed woman. I just read and cried to the blog of a good friend, and realized, I have missed out on journaling our family experiences via blog. So let it begin! I can not promise how frequent my post will be. Jake and Cord have been feeling independent lately. They headed down the trail to a little fishing um...swamp?? Anyway, I was laughing so hard when I saw what they brought home! A pretty good size Bass! So, they cleaned it up and cooked it up. They even ate it all and didn't get sick!

We probably could've just taken ourselves, and had just as much fun. Why...Why... I ask myself! We thought our dreams were dashed because of our age, until we saw an elderly well (like 50) year old man as a trainer. It's never too late, I smiled to myself! Not to mention the pregnant Dolphin Trainer! Wow, prego in a wetsuit!!!

We had our 3rd annual Pumpkin Carving at our house again this year. We had about 25 fun families show up to carve their pumpkins and eat good treats! So fun! My dad thought it would be fun to soak a roll of toilet paper in gasoline and set it inside the pumpkin. Hence the flaming pumpkin below! See ya again next year!

A week in Newport

A benefit to home schooling and our main reason why we home schooled this year was to spend a little more time together. So our first trip of the year was spent at the Newport Coast Marriott. I'm really thinking of just selling the house and living in a timeshare for 56 weeks of the year. People do that you know! The "suite life with the Billings" You would all be invited!

It was the perfect time to go to the beach for a week. The weather was awesome, the water was warm, and there were no people. The kids snorkled for their first time. They saw Girabaldi's. Mick took his snorkle everywhere including to bed with him. We swam everyday at the pools, watched movies and ate a lot! The Fox's spent the weekend with us, and we had lots of good laughs. Ahhh, we need to live there!

Many of you know I am homeschooling this year. We were reading a book about a boy who worked hard to get something he had always wanted. So, I asked them to write a creative paragraph on something they have really wanted. I said to be sure that the reader can feel and understand how badly you have wanted this item, and describe it clearly.

I think Jake did just that. I just question his desire for things?

He said...and I quote...
"Have you ever wanted something that you could not have at the time? You moaned and dreamed about it throughout your whole life? That from the first second of your first breath it stood out to you? I have. I have always wanted my own porta potty. They just look so rich and beautiful. They smell so good. Don't get me started with the sinks! They are so much fun to just sit there and pump with your foot. The soap smells so fresh! I don't know about you but it feels so good to not flush! YES on 8 is the protection of marriage between a man and a woman. Already in California the gay and lesbian partnerships have many rights that will stay in place. This proposition will not take away those existing rights. What we are trying to keep in place is the definition of marriage. That marriage is reconized as being between a man and a woman.

If this is not passed, The definition of marriage will have no boundaries. Plural marriages, marriages of all kinds, will be fought, because legally the boundary was removed. Legally, it will be inputed in the cirriculum of public schools, not only would kids learn that homosexuality is equal to marriage, but sex education would include the Homosexuality side of "sex education." Adoption agencies would be sued for not adopting to gay couples. Church's that don't marry same sex couples would be fined in taxes. And that would be just the start.

Our Day with Sarah

I just went to a Palin Rally on Saturday with Rey. We met up with one of my best friends Janel and her daughter and mom. (oh and 30,000 other people!) We had the best time. Janel, your passion for everything in this world is contagious! I can honestly say Sarah Palin is a woman of character and values. She is funny, down to earth, and has proven to get the job done (with 88% approval ratings no less). She was announced by a very left winged Womens Lib president, who the audience was shocked to have there, but said, in announcing Palin, “ this is what a feminist should look like.” Women fought to have their voices heard, not for women to be “Men haters” or anti moms, or loud voices with obnoxious mouths. They fought to have "class" restored to women. I admire Sarah Palin. The more you learn about her the more you respect her values, and her accomplishments. She has a great relationship with her husband. Her kids love her, and it is obvious they have a close family. Her extended family has character that is hard to find. If I wanted someone in office that represented me, my beliefs, dreams and standards, it would be her. I know women have a positive influence in this world. Good women that is. Prayers should be said for her and her family. I am sure there are days she would rather be sitting on her couch reading a magazine. But instead she has chosen to make some sacrifices for the future good of not only her children, but mine too. Go Palin!

I would take a picture and I wish that I could, but all I can say is, Luke in a speedo, makes my eyes water from controlling my laughter. HA!!! I got him Jammers, because I thought those would suit him better, but just now he walked into my office wearing Jakes normal speedo. And I couldn't help but let out my laughter when he left the room, and blog about how cute that was!!!
Out of 4 boys, and swimmer parents, we are bound to create the next Michael Phelps...I think I'll just make sure Luke wears the Jammers.

So - each kid has had a nickname sometime or another. they come about different ways. We now have one for Mav. Not to disrespect Grandpa or anything but his middle name is Richard..... For some reason calling him "Little Dick" when we come upon a mess or something broken just softens the blow. Its great..... We get the same satisfaction or release of anger just calling him Little Dick as we would wackin his booty. I dont think it would work with our other kids but hey, if the name fits - use it!

I was an ocean lifeguard for 6 years in large surf conditions, but never did I feel like I was going to drown then behind that water fall on a windy day. CRAZY!

Slept on the ground with many spiders and bugs, and a rainstorm. I now understand why on Survivor they say it was the longest night of their lives.

Jon and I left the kids behind to have an adventure. Again! This time it was to Havasupi. A ten mile hike in (piece of cake!) And a 10 mile hike out (piece of Hell!) We backpacked in everything. Rations and all. No tent, No sleeping bags. Just the clothes we were wearing, a swimsuit, and shoes that provided the largest blisters in history. But it was beautiful. We loved every minute of it. We were there the weekend it was a flash flood where everyone was evacuated out. The only thing was, we were the last to leave before the evacuation. I have never seen lighting and heard thunder within the walls of the canyons like that. Unbelievable. We were beyond "happy in water" with all the water falls and rivers. Had no idea places like that existed so close. Felt like we were in South America somewhere. Thanks Jon for a time I will never forget.

Jon and Byron Konold took 11 boys to the Sequoia's for a week of backpacking. Jakes pack was 25 lbs, and Jons was about 56lbs. They came back dirty, but had a great time. Jon thinks he's Bear Grylls and tried to tackle a deer. Who knows what else he tried while he was there. Jake loved it. When I asked him if he was glad to be home, he said, "no mom, I really miss it." What does that say about home???

Look how pretty We decided to go on a hike near our house. We are finally at the stage where the kids can keep up. (Mav in a backpack of course). Supposedly it is 9 miles up. Someone said at the top there was snow. But we just did a little of it. Not quite up for 9 miles. I think Luke learned the importance of not going Commando, after falling in the stream 2 seconds into the hike. Wet jeans on a hike...not so fun! It was awesome. Any couples that want to do the 9 miles might be good training for the narrows. Are you in?

So, I had a bad day today, and the odd thing was, I found myself blogging! Sometimes its good to blog happy things when your feeling blue. It makes things seem not so bad. Because even if things are bad, theres a whole lot of good to make up for it. Anyway, you missed out on hearing about Su's bad blog, and instead you get a "I'm done with that...I'm gonna be happy blog" instead! But heres the before picture... Okay, I originally put a happy picture on here as well, but then I realized how incredibly white I looked, so I deleted it. Whats that...$5 tan? The Adventure

We took the kids to my parents for the night, so we could go to a Valentines party with friends. After the party @11:30 pm Jon asked me if I wanted to go on an adventure. SO we packed up the car and headed down to San Diego to camp on the beach. Since it was freezing and the tide was high, we slept in the car. We woke up early 5:30, Jon surfed, I peeded, I mean played in the sand, and then we hurried off to the temple. Great adventure Jonny!

Ace is our neighbor

So, Ace was moved onto Katherines property on January 1st. She lives 2 houses down from us. Her place down there is amazing. The kids after school walk home, feed, muck, and change the water, and then I am there in the mornings and afternoons to turn him out. As much as it is work, it is so peaceful to be down there with all 6 of the horses. We would love to have him trained. He is such a good horses for being a young untrained Arab. We love him, we are just trying to figure out what we should do next. In the meantime, it is such a great thing having him so close. Awesome experience for the family so far. Thanks Kath for having him.

Jon and Jake went on a 8 or 9 mile overnighter with the scouts. It stirred some "Man vs.Wild" in me. Maybe it was when Jon threw his camel pack on the counter. I was determined to buy a back pack and a walking stick and go hiking! So of course, it doesnt take much to motivate our fun group of friends to do something fun, so the Narrows...here we come! (The Army Navy store has walking sticks! Jon says guys don't use walking sticks, but I told him, I'm not a guy!) Anyway, Jake is a stud! I think we are inching up on the ages that our kids can handle a little challenge in the outdoors. Fun lies ahead!

So Debbie came up with a word for the year to help her with her New Years Resolution. My word is "words." I realized I am affected by words! I could hear a bad word and it thrashes me. I can hear or think of positive words and watch out world here comes Su. Soooo I made a list of words. Some to make me laugh..."Wa3nted"....others to purely motivate. I taped them all around my house. To others they are just words. To me, they make up who I am, or who I want to become! So thats my New Years Resolution-to focus on good words-they do wonders!

Catching up with Christmas

Christmas was interesting this year. I probably enjoyed the true meaning of it then ever before. Because of that, the kids also really understood it this year as well. As for the worldy side of Christmas it was pure caos and I felt as if I never had it all together, but all in all I look back at it now and definetly say it will be one I remember as a best. (Someone really needs to teach me how to do the slideshow thing!)

We were asked to have the Ward Christmas party at our house. We ended up moving all of our furniture out and put in 13 round tables. Each table was hosted by someone different. The Elders spent the day getting lights up. It turned out really nice with over 100 people. We had yummy food and a great time!

We went to payless and as we were shopping I heard the kids hysterically laughing. I found them standing in front of a mirror that makes you look very short and very plump. So Jon and I stood in, and we all just laughed for quite a long time. It was so funny that we wanted to take a picture and use it as our Christmas card, but it was coming out blurry each time. BUMMER. Not like our real Christmas card picture is any better of all of us (its the background that we loved...next year we will focus on looking cute, this year was all about the scenery.) Anyway, I had to post these pictures because I think they are hysterical. Reys arms looked like body builders. HA! You should really try it sometime! Thanks Payless for the laughs!

This is the real Junior- Pretty good replica right?

This was the cake I made for Maverick. He loves Junior and attacks him all day long, so I was sure it would make him attack the cake as well. We put him and the cake on the middle of the table. With all Mavericks friends and siblings sitting around him, we thought he would dig in and maybe share with the other kids. It didn't turn out like we planned, but he loved the attention, and had no problem being the center of it...litterally.

He had so much fun with his gifts.

Rey and Jake were invited to take a little (I mean huge) limo ride for a trip to IN-N-OUT and to look at the lights. Needless to say, they had the night of their lives. Rey even found out she has a secret admirer!

A Tribute to Carol

I wanted to write a little something about Carol. I feel cheated for only knowing her a short time,but I feel blessed to have her daughter be in my life forever. We went to Carols memorial today. I always felt a strength when I was around her. She was calm, happy, loved to laugh, and always complimented. She struggled with her health for so long, but you would never know it. She was what every mom should be. She stayed strong for her daughter from the beginning and she stayed strong for her until the end. Her relationship with Stacy was something every mom and daughter could only dream. She truley lived, laughed and loved. We will go on remembering to live with the same strength. Stacy is a product of Carol. Carol raised a daughter who is one of the greatest people I know. She will be loved and remembered in our family. Thank you Carol, for the life you embraced and loved. We will miss you and look forward to the day where we can sit and laugh with you again.

Bounce House Fun

So, we decided to rent out a big bounce house place. No not for the kids, but for us adults only. Seriously it was so fun. We figured we use to do fun things like that as young adults, so why the heck not still. I think we played harder than any kid would. Lots of sore muscles and bruises to show for it. 2--Im kinda a naturalist. Never viewed myself as one before, but have realized how much I love everything thats good for you! Clean-pure things! I love fruits and veggies, touching a plant, breathing in the air on a clear blue day, imerssing myself in saltwater and rubbing sand on my face...Hee Hee think Im wierd, but it feels good, and makes you appreciate life!

4--I love being in love
5--Laughing is the best! Hard, I mean, can't stop, need to breath hard. Especially in quiet moments, like funerals..MC your terrible! And please try to laugh at mine someday, I'll be laughing up there!
6--I think it's interesting when you watch kids play. Try it, take a minute and sit and watch how they think and what they laugh at, and think is fun. It makes you a kid in an instant.

Our Trip to UTAH

How much do I love Utah! I really do! We have a timeshare and enjoyed conference weekend in Park City! It was the best trip! We experienced so much in such a short time. We went from beautiful Fall to snowy Winter and some how finished up with a great summer day tubing on the Lake! We had a blast! Julie and her kids were spontaneous and fun as vacation buddies. The kids(and Jon) had so much fun together having snowball fights and then jumping into the pool. We did the coaster, ziplines, tubing, swimming,temple square, Joseph Smith movie, and time with my brothers family. For such a short trip we did so much and had an unforgettable time! I will forever eat my ignorant words when I said as a kid, "Utah???" All I can say is 'It is a great and beautiful place.' Jules, thanks for the memories! Now get me more pictures!!

Please do not divorce me as friends. Following the return of our AWESOME trip to Utah, (pictures to come)I have decided to better myself by decluttering my life and mind. Soooo...I have commited to no TV or uneccesarry reading! I KNOW!!!! So, though I started Twilight and was totally enjoying it, I am showing great control by not reading further. But thanks to a devoted friend Rachael, offered to give me a very detailed account of all 3 books. Thus elieviating my time, thoughts and energy that I would have exerted in reading. So, yes, I am motivated, spiritually charged and renewed to go forward with purpose and clarity with my life! (But feel free to keep me quickly updated with anything you feel is Soooo good. I was always a Cliff Note kind of person anyway!)
